Excuse mua for these headline but it's how I feel. I just came accross a wonderful article in NY Sun where one frustrated mother of a first grader tried to buy some clothes for her daughter:

"Where are the sevens?" I asked the sixty-something clerk who wore her glasses on a chain just like me.

"You're standing in 'em," she said.

Oh no, I thought, looking around. Oh no, no, no, no, no, no.

"There must be some mistake," I said. "These are, well, slutty-looking. I'm talking about clothes for a little girl in first grade."

"That's all we've got."

"But these look like things a hooker would wear!"

She smiled sadly. "You have no idea how many times I hear that every day.

Okay, breathe. This is just some weird marketing experiment. Right?

I went into my second-favorite department store and was invited to peruse the awfulness that is Tweenland! A better name would be Lil Skanks!

Sequins, fringe, neon glitter tank tops with big red lips on them, fishnet sleeves, scary dragon faces lunging from off-the-shoulder T-shirts. Whither the adorable seersucker? The pastel floral short sets? The soft cotton dresses in little-girl colors like lavender, pale pink, periwinkle blue? This stuff practically screamed SYRINGE SOLD SEPARATELY.

This is actually exactly how I felt walking down the trade show floor at Children's Club. Flashy neon colors, glitter tops, spandex pants... Actually now I was paying attention to clothes for girls 6-8 y.o, I was really shocked. It's why I am sticking with Ralph Lauren & Lilly Pulitzer when shop around for my older one who will be 5 in February. She's wearing 6 or 6x now (she's exceptionally tall and skinny).

Today on my way from SMX Conference I stopped at Daffy's store at Broadway & 34th Street. They have awesome selection kids' designer brands at prices as low as 75% off. To my (not) surprise I spotted several Baby Lulu outfits priced like $14.99 - I think it was cgenille dress and leggings set that was selling for like $68 at online boutiques that sell Baby Lulu. Anyway, for those in NYC and the area please make sure to stop and shop there. Nobody should pay retail price for Baby Lulu. :)

As I promised to you I made sure to stop at Baby Lulu booth at Children's Club today. It was a great day to be at the show - it was a first day and the major crowd hasn't arrived yet. I really enjoyed a quiet stroll on the floor looking at beautiful clothes and accessories. I had my little camera with me and took some photos of what caught my attention.
Baby Lulu booth was conveniently located close to the entrance and ironically it was a first booth I actually stopped by. Booth looked colorful and cute, I spotted new fabrics and wanted a sneak peak of Summer 2008 Collection. The girl at the booth was most unfriendly person I ever met at trade shows (And Gosh, I do attend them alot!) . She said I can not take photos and refused to tell me anything about Baby Lulu's upcoming collections and didn't give me a catalog!!!! Oh well, I guess you would have to wait 'till it will be available in stores.

Forget about Baby Lulu, the show was great! I stopped at several booths and people were friendly, they gave me all the information I needed. My favorite was the booth of Agatha Ruiz De La Prada. OMG, this designer is amazing. It's a combination of colorful chic and simple cut. I just love. love . love her latest collection. Actually the booth gil told me that she is going to be at the booth on Tuesday! I will be at SMX Social Media Conference that day and unfortunately will miss my chance to talk to designer. On my way home I was flipping through Vogue Bambino latest issue and there were a profile on Agatha Ruiz De La Prada. She's a well known designer in Spain and I am sure she'll do amazing on US market.

Today I received a dress I ordered for Eva. This is Baby Lulu Florentine Paisley Carolina Dress. I got it in size 5 for Eva and she was very excited to try it on. I heard her crying and it turned out that her head couldn't fit into the hole!!!!! No, Eva doesn't have enormous head - she's very much normal kid and never ever had any problems fitting into any clothes... I hope this was purely my "luck" and anyone else experienced this problem with this model. Or did you?
Here is the dress... It's a shame I would have to return it..

Fall Peony was a line from Baby Lulu Fall 2006 Collection. I loved this orange-red-brown pattern. It's a shame I missed the colorful foliage and shoot Eva wearing it in late fall.
Later I shoot her in spring wearing the same outfit, slightly different shirt. I think it was for spring colors too!

I was so excited about the whole seasons thing that I bough matching outfits for girls and shoot them once trees turned yellow. Baby Lulu Madeline is my favorite from Cruise 2008 Collections. I showed pictures to Eva who is 4,5 asking what would she like and the only outfit she picked was ruffle tee and canvas pant.

My top picks were cute couple dresses: Lauren and Tutu dress. Also retro bathing suit is always an eye candy. For little ones I loved puff dress with cute butterflies and flowers.

It's August and Baby Lulu presented Cruise 2008 Collection. And the names are: Candy Land, Madeline,Lucinda and Paper Floral.
As usual Baby Lulu is very slow when it comes to updating their site, and since they don't mail catalogs out, fans have to digg to find latest photos.

I have to admit that my girls are 4 and 2 now and they've almost outgrew their Lulu stage. My oldest one refuses to wear these pretty dresses and lives in polos and khakis (welcome to Darien, CT) and the little one gets nothing new - the closets are overflowing with clothes I bought for Eva and somebody actually needs to wear all of it! So probably I won't get anything for them from Baby Lulu anymore. Juicy Couture, here we come! :)

Chrysanthemum probably is my line from Baby Lulu Fall 2007 collection. It combines 3 prints: solid red, chrysanthemum flowers print and cute red-orange dots. My top pick from this collection would be Sparrow tee and drawstring pants (I will get it for Eva) and Twirl Dress. For babies I adore their Gi Gi romper (these design sells quick, I remember hunting down for them while kids were toddlers).

Baby Lulu is getting fancier with names - cheez, it's hard to pronounce and spell this one! Big floral prints in blue, pink and orange blended with a little green and yellow. The second print is little chick in the same gamma and I think it's really cute for baby items. Since my girls are definitely outgrew multi-color chick print stage I will focus on floral dresses.
My top pick is Carolina Dress with cute ruffle trim and adorable sleeves ties.

For toddler girls I wouldn't be able to resist buying Empire Knit Dress and accessorize it with matching hat and leggings.

Baby Lulu Hyacinth Garden - the first fall preview

Baby Lulu just shoot out this new fall collection. It's called Hyacinth Garden. Actually "Hyacinth" pronounced "Giacint" in Russian - I know this flower. I would never guessed it's name looking just at Lulu pattern though! My top pick from this collection would be Kari dress. I love how they combined three different fabrics and it doesn't look busy at all. Maybe I will get this dress for Eva later on.

There was a wonderful website lululines.com that had an extensive database of all Baby Lulu lines created to date. I was often referring to it for a name of a line if I couldn't remember it. About one month ago the site was taken down. Actually this website was sort of authority for many ebay users who were selling retired and collectible Lulu pieces. I was thinking I can try to put together something like this for people. I tag every photo with a Baby Lulu Collection name. I know I don't have many especially older ones (before 2004 era) but with your help I sure could give it a try. Here is Eva wearing Tara dress from Baby Lulu Raspberry Mums Collection. I love this easy halter dress style - very summery and open. Eva wore it to the park and was playing on the grass. I said this dress goodbye in my thoughts but surprisingly it handled washing/drying very well. All stains came off and felt flower is still in the shape and looks good.

Well, I just get a comment from Forgetmenotkids owner on my earlier post that they're still in the game and not going to discontinue Baby Lulu line. Actually it was one of my readers who mentioned it. Anyway, the good news is that we still have at least one Baby Lulu online retailer. The bad news is that there is no competition and it's always a bad thing. I don't know why Trenditikes are giving up - I loved their website, their service, their faster and nicer markdowns and always favored them over Forgetmenot.

Frankly, I wasn't impressed with a quality of these dresses. A little loose thread here and there, non-even stitches, even the quality of jersey fabric is no different from Walmart jersey dresses. I was a bit disappointed. Eva loved them all though and she wore Tara dress to my company's BBQ today.

Just about when I finally found time to give a glowing review somewhat updated Baby Lulu website I got this screen:
Does it mean Baby Lulu is coming back with beautifully re-designed all Web 2.0 compliant website? And maybe (gulp) they are finally ready to sell online? How complicated can it be? Obviously very complicated since they post their collections on the website about 2 months later after they hit boutiques. Anyway, I (and thousands of Baby Lulu fans) keep our fingers crossed hoping for a miracle. Since Trenditikes already announced that they discontinue baby Lulu lines and ForgetMeNot are following... One of my favorite Baby Lulu online reseller just announced that they are discontinuing Baby Lulu line :( All Baby Lulu collections are priced to clear including Spring 2007 lines. To me it's sad because I liked this store and they were first to mark down prices on latest collections. I think it a loss for us customers and to Baby Lulu.... There are an handful number of websites that offer Baby Lulu stuff, I hope more will come and it';s not a Baby Lulu who makes it's so difficult to buy their clothes. Maybe Baby Lulu will start selling off their website? It would be awesome, I think they should!

Baby Lulu Spring 2007 Review: Audrey's Garden

This collection is totally awesome! The pattern reminds me of vintage table cloth, but with modern twist to it. My top pick for baby is Baby Lulu Audrey's Garden Pink Caterpillar Romper. This is a totally new design for Baby Lulu, and this is beyond cute.

For toddlers ages 1 to 3 my best pick is this Garden 2pc. skirted set. This most sought after outfit in every Lulu Collection.
I love this age group and I love how cute they look in long dresses. My favorite dress for toddlers in Baby Lulu Audrey's Garden Tiered T-Dress.

For grown up girls like Eva (3-6 years old) my favorite from this collection is three-piece set: Hippi Pants, Flower Tee and Hooded Jacket.

I think this is Baby Lulu Spring/Summer 2003 Collection. It's called Spring Daisy. I had a few items from this collection. My favorite was this dress: exactly the same dress Eva had in Tiffany collection. I had to have a matching hat.

Here is Emily... She's wearing adorable rose vineyard two piece outfit: another pattern from Southern Rose collection. This outfit was so lightweight and easy to wear that I bought another one a size bigger: she practically grew up in this set. It was August in Florida - do I need to say more? Thank you Baby Lulu for this set!

OK, enough of Morning Glory... My next obsession was Souther Rose - very colorful pattern Baby Lulu introduced in their Spring/Summer 2003 Collection... Here are my babies wearing matching outfits... I LOVED this collection - Morning Glory. I think this is 2003 Spring Line. Eva wearing their Lycra pant suit with lace. I think it was a first Baby lulu outfit I bought. I had only one girl - she's 14 months on this photo. Later I bought a blanket for newborn baby in this print.
